does anyone have a good book on composing (especially metal) that you recommend? i'm really interested to learn much more about it...anything from beginners to intermediate or even advanced would be nice too.

It's called "Secrets to writing killer metal songs". I don't have it either, just looked for the name on the backcover of Speed Mechanics.

I have heard good things about the book but it is out of print. I would like to get a copy of it as well some day, even if it was a photo copy. Anyone out there with it?

I have an older version of it with the cassette

It is an OK book with a lot of good ideas/theory/how-to's in it.

No, I'm not giving up my copy.....but you can find it on E-Bay once in a while.....or check the Stetina website to see if anybody there will part with theirs.

          Good luck

i think this is one of stetina's weaker books. in it he basically tabs out the songs on the STETNA album he did and explains why/how he structured the songs, etc. it's not overly broad in styles explored...its basically a tab book with a cd and explanations of the different passages. i would recommend "how to write songs on guitar" by ricky rooksby instead. this is a very diverse, information packed book. it tells you everything you need to know to write songs (aka how to pick a key, harmonize, etc and also all progressions that work, not just the i-iv-v).
