• Is it possible to do harmonizing leads on one axe?

(Yes, I did make a post like this in the past, but it got nowhere because I was too unspesific. Sorry!)

I was just wondering if this was possible to do without an effect unit. I haven't heard of one that sounds real, and plus I don't believe in allowing the machines doing that kind of work. I've tried playing the notes on one guitar and it sounded either like another chord, or just like ass in total. It sounds good between two guitars, but not on one; the signal gets muddy.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

nope...i use an ips 33b for harmonies...you might be able to accomplish it with a stereo ripley guitar but i'm not sure...d.m.

Hmmmm, I've been using the Harmonist effect on my Boss GT-6 for basic harmonies. You can set whatever interval you like. It's based on the Boss Harmonist stompbox. It doesn't sound QUITE like two separate guitarists, but it's close enough for me since playing guitar is just a hobby for me.

Me too, great unit. I had a guy named Dave White mod it so it was a little cleaner. I love mine.

I don't even think it's possible at all, because a guitar amp is built such a way to get distortion. Well, try playing harmonising leads on an acoustic

Oh, it's possible while tapping! I saw Mike Romeo (Symphony X) do it on my guitar in the late '80s when I took lessons from him. One hand played one thing, the other hand played the other.

Here's a small sample I did on a POD 2.0 recently:

Delay Sample
Not quite harmonizing, but very similar.

It's not possible with distortion tones because the distortion occurs after the "mixing" of the notes which you play on several strings. In a band, each guitar has distortion and then those signals are mixed. If those guitars were plugged into the same rig at the same point (ie. before distortion) it would also sound like ****.
