• Unison bends on a Floyd...

hey you guys know that if you bend a string on a FR guitar the FR dives and lovers the tension on the other strings.

so how do you make proper unison bends on a floyd without getting out of key?

for example:
e------------
b---5--------
g---7b(9)--------

when i bend the d on the g string up to match the e in the b string, the original e note has been lowered because of the floyd, and if you match the pitches it will end up slightly flat compared to an e...

i hope it makes sence.. what can be done about it?

Buy a Kahler...lol.

What I do is try to rest my hand on the Floyd and try to keep it from rocking upward. It is difficult and this is one of the few flaws with the Floyd.

Following your example you posted there, you can either bend the B string a little bit with your index finger to raise its pitch back to where it's supposed to be, or you can do what I do and apply pressure onto the Floyd to bring it back to level so that it is as if the Floyd doesn't raise up.

Or you can install a Hipshot Tremsetter.

try using more springs in the back. i find the OFR alot more stable with 4 or 5 springs. if you do alot of dive bombing a trem tricks it will take some getting used to but i think its worth it. tho you cant get it to to do warble bounce with that many springs.

my guitar teacher's advice about stuff like this is: "use you ears". it's easy to overanalyze...just keep practicing until it sounds right.

For recording, I used to push the bridge with my palm while bending to keep it in key. I would have to run through it a few times to get it, but it worked. For live, I would just bend like normal and be out of key. Nobody fuggin knows any better. Can't hear it over the screaming girls anyway. lol.
