Re: Nervous at the gig

Everyone here has good info on this subject.

One little thing I've noticed REALLY helps to avoid nervousness and especially, bad performances, is to know the songs like the back of your hands. Be able to play the songs one hundred times in a row without ANY mistakes. Yeah, I know that sounds fairly DUH DUH DER and obvious, but a lot of people still make such mistakes. I had to sing a song in front of my class last week. I decided to sing Emperor's I am the Black Wizards. I even made an accompaniment tape in my little studio. I bombed it, because I didn't practice it enough and thought I could fake it. Totally didn't happen. Very embarassing. I'll never make that mistake again. I used to get so nervous to the point of puking and passing out too! I actually had to leave stage once; it sucked balls. The way I overcame it was to do things out of the ordinary on stage, even small things will help a lot. Try different things, a routine won't help you at all, if anything it will make you feel confined.

Moving around is optional too. I have to headbang, except the soloing that is, or I can't keep the rhythm that good.

The best cure is to be on stage A LOT. Get up there frequently, and do it for a long time too. After a while, you won't even care that you're on stage.

I have to agree with the moving around thing. All that energy from the nervous shaking could be used for super cool "80's" poses! Then you'll be sure to get the babes. LOL!

If you are lucky and have a enthustiastic audience who cheer you up, you will loose all nerves

We have about 20 people who haven't missed a gig yet, and it does help. Especially since they yell, chant and generally act like animals!

It's funny, but I find school concerts to be ten times more nerve wracking. The audience can't really do anything, it's hard to tell if they appreciate it. Usually there's a crowd of at bottom least 400 people. If they started moving around a bit, it would be so much better; considering it's at school what can they do? Concerts with the metal band are soooooooooo much funner. People get up, move around, **** eachother up. You can tell they're having a good time.
