Re: How many times does it take you to get it righ

it depends. sometimes it goes down fast other times not so fast. I have a problem in that I don't like punching in or working on sections. If I record an entire song, every track is played from the beginning of the song to the end. I don't work in sections like a lot of people do so I do multiple takes, sometimes as many as 6-8 and listen back later to them. Of course if its a 5 minute song if I make a mistake I just start over, if the solo is cool I'll keep the track and go on to the next one. I like continuity of entire songs so even if I'm laying the solos I play the rhythm part as I would live. It can be time consuming but I hate breaking up songs into sections.

Speaking of recording, how is the Korg Pandora PXR-4, and how is does it compare to the Fostex MR-8???

last time i recorded we did almost everything one take. I doubled all the guitars. only 2 songs had more than one take on the doubling. we recorded like we rehersed, drinking, smoking & just having a grand ole time. & we had the ability to do whatever we wanted 2" studer, big board, the works, Water Music in Hoboken if anybodys heard of it. at mix down he lost all the guitar tracks off one song. I recorded 4 takes of the lost song straight through. if i messed up he kept rolling like as if it was live. I let the band & the engineer pick the 2 best takes & that was that. by that time into it everything sounded the same to me. it also helped we had played almost all the songs live for a long time before we recorded.

Rhythm usually is one take. Double tracks and everything. Leads are, well, another story. I'm wicked nit pickey. It needs to be right. I try not to do punch in's unless it's unavoidable. What sucks is, I can nail everything every time until the little red light is on. What the fuk?
