One of the best advice I ever got is:

play/practice standing up.

solves a bunch of posture issues, especially on the right arm.
Also, try having it hang as low as your left hand allows... less strain on the right shoulder imo. It took me some time to get used to doing everything standing up, but much less time than expected (2, 3 weeks?). Its damnwell worth it.

Yep except trying to hang it too low will not allow proper angle of your fingers for soloing - that is if you want to shred.

Also, here is fun one to try...

-------------10/15 17 19 22 24--22-19-17-15\-10-----
-----------12----------------T------------------12----
---------12---------------------------------------12----
-------12-------------------------------------------12-----
-10--14-----------------------------------------------14-10--
-------------------------------------------

Slide your first finger up from the 10th fret to the 15th to complete the G arpeggio and use your remaining fingers to hit the other fretted notes then tap the 24th note then back down.

This one took me a while. It is a Tony Smotherman lick courtesy of your friendly neighborhood Shredmonster.
PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

I'm trying to get my alternate picking up to a decent speed. I practice about 2 hours a day, 30 mins on the picking, one hour on our bands music, and 30 mins back on the picking (with a metronome).

Any videos out there that focus on that technique?

I am working on some Michael Romeo stuff that is pretty hard. It involves lots of string skipping. I find the single string Malmsteen ascending runs really difficult to master too. I can play them but they never sound as smooth as the maestro.

If I remember right, either or both Jeff Watson or Steve Lynch had some REH Videos.

Jemmefer Batten had some MI Videos also of the 8 finger tapping thing also.

For me right now, its string skipped arpeggios..not so much difficult as I haven't exactly been able to make them just come naturally..you know..those things that you do without thinking so much about them..they don't just flow out effortlessly right now.

Re: Most difficult technique you\'re currently tryi

ive also been working on a lot of romeo stuff, tapping, string skipping, sweeping, it's all in there. Lately I've really been going all out on the huge string skipping part from in the dragon's den.

Also, I'm constantly working on my finger picked tremelo for classical guitar, which I would venture to say is easily the most difficult technique I'm working on. Making 4 right hand fingers synchronize perfectly aint easy.

wow.. you guys are way ahead of me, actually telling yourself what to practice. but i guess i could say i'm kind getting into string skipping, or trying to haha. I've also adopted playing with the guitar right at my nipples when standing and the cord between my legs when im sitting like a rhoads but with an sl2hmah. I found this increases my left hand agility quite a bit, but it wears out my left shoulder faster.

Paganini's 24th Caprice - violin/shred style - complete transcription from scratch - NO tab!
And I'm using Itzhak Perlman as a baseline!

I've never even attempted anything like this before. I can't count the number of techniques I'm learning. String skipping, lighting arpeggios, really complex fingering. I even have had to grow my nails on my right-hand - just to pull off the Finale. Oh - and my alt picking is twice as fast as it was and is still too slow!

I've had to learn a few of the variations three times - I keep figuring out better fingerings/phrasings that force me to rethink how I'm doing things in other parts.

I've given up twice - but now I'm getting close. I can play it end to end. The fingerings are done. The phrasings are solid. I can play about 75% at full speed, the rest at 3/4 speed.

Most of it needs to be a lot cleaner.
---
If I can nail this - I can play anything.

I will nail this!!!!

Why do I still want MORE?

I'd have to say learning overhand playing.

I think, besides cleaning up all areas of my playing...getting my brain and hands to understand solos. Like that lick Shredmonster put up on the first page...I couldn't play that. I'd stare at it, look at my hands...try to bar across the 3 12th fret notes, and then try to just play it without thinking too much. I can learn lots of speed riffs, but for some reason solos just throw me off. I feel like I can't keep up to know where to go next.

I've been trying to get my alternate picking to a pace where I can play some Yngwie stuff. Problem is I've been trying to learn this for like 2 years now...I'm close but can't quite get over the hump. I think it may just be time, I only have enough time to practice about 60-90 minutes a day.

I'm in the same boat
I would so snatch that up it if were 24 frets

I'm out like Axl Rose just before a GNR concert

When people ask me how to play faste rythms, I say simple - Buy Riegn in Blood and play all 28 mins start to finish. If you can do that, you are on your way!
