  • I just switched from jazz iii to the jazz iii xl. Same pick only bigger, I got them by accident and ended up liking them better.

    • I really like dunlop speedpick .96. Easy fast picking and ubelievable clear notes . And they do not wear fast.

I'm curiuos how the Jazz III would compare to it - I never had a chance to try one, cause neither of my two local guitar stores carries have them in stock currently .

            • Dunlop nylon .88 trimmed to a point, bevels shaved on opposing edges when I'm playing. Thick dark purple Dunlops, tultex maybe, stiff as a quarter, cut and shaved the same way when I'm practicing. Started with Fender thins as a kid. Made me pick way too hard. The purples are behavior modification. I shave them similar to a stylus pick to quiet the "shick".

              • got a bunch of picks from my local music store.. love 'em
i use thin picks, no thicker than 1mm..
i find 1mm too thick for 9s , everytime i use a 1mm i have this "im gonna rip my strings any minute now" feeling.
If the crowd is shouting for an encore, but the sound guy is shaking his head, ignore him and play anyway

Sounds like you tend to pick hard too. Hard habit to break. I play .008's. Not into the drop tunings and super high action. Whole game changed when I started soloing.

its a habit because i started out with thin picks.. and now i tried a thick pick and not picking too hard and it was so much easier to play faster.. also palm muting sounds much better.. bye bye thin picks

                        • i started out with thin picks..
Glad I could help. Ya may break a few strings but soon you'll just be using the tip of the pick. No wasted motion=speed. Btw, keep a bag of ice handy for your forearm/wrist.

                            • Orange Dunlop Tortex, in the classic shape. Second choice is green Tortex, same shape.

                              • I now went to Fender 1.14 XH.
They're a little larger than the Dunlops, so I get more stability and a little better grip.
