You'll likely try one of the black ones and won't even need the other five blacks, nor six reds, ever again.

That's basically what happened with me.

Re: Poll: What are your favorite picks?

OK, I've read that most picks have a coating that helps them glide over the strings, and eventually wears away, causing more resistance and hindering speed. Thats why after so many hours of practice I've been tossing picks and grabbing a fresh plectrum. Are these picks an exception to that rule...?

I haven't noticed that problem with the Stubby 3.0s. I will toss 'em when the tip wears down too much though. But that can take a while. I haven't bought new picks in ages.

Big Stubby 3's-there bigger and more clinical picking wise than the jazz picks.I have lots of diferent picks but always return to the 3's as they feel best and play best(to me)

I use the Fender Heavy.
Ultex are nice too in the 1mm. I wear mine out really fast due to my picking style "self taught moron" I drag the pick a bit on each stroke so the picks get worne pretty fast.

Same here... in theory, I should never have to buy picks because I dont take my guitars anywhere to lose them. But Ill be damned if I havent lost at LEAST 50 picks in the last 10 years. I just dont know where the hell they go... maybe an evil pick-gnome?

Re: Poll: What are your favorite picks?

your theory is cut short by the reality that picks wear out. period.

fact:
all you tortex and special coating pickers are wasting your money.

the standard classic celluloid picks are the best.

"but the special coating keeps it from slipping through my fingers."
yeah, that might be true when your sitting on your couch. but when your whole body is covered in sweat from being on stage... that "special" coating, doesn't do anything.

celluloid, on the other hand, only gets "stickier" with heat and sweat.

try this. take your favorite pick and squeez it for 30 sec then let go and watch your pick fall to the floor.
take a classic celluloid pick and squeez it for 30 sec then let go and watch it stick to one of your fingers.

celluliod is the shit.
