Re: Poll: What are your favorite picks?

I've been using Dunlop Big Stubby 2.0 mm's, they are great for very fast alt picking and jazz runs, and they sound great on rhythm guitar, very bassy, but I think I'll let them go, Tortex 1.0 or 1.14 fit better for my style, they are better for phrasing and have stronger attack, they don't sound as good as Stubbys for rhythm guitar but I can live with that.

celluloid is the best material for giging guitarists. their flammibility makes them stick to your fingers as you start to sweat.

I personally use Meta Carbonite 1mm picks, silver ones. My favorite by far....haven't tried Jazz 3 picks, I'll have to pick some up on my next outing.

For me it's Dunlop Big Stubby 2mm or Dunlop Jazz III.

Seriously, I like Fender extra heavy, or Tortex if I have a choice. I used those big Dorito looking picks for years, but I'm back to standard sized picks now. As long as they are not worn out or too thin, I can play with them, I'm not too picky about picks.

I just discovered Pickboy picks, the ones with the sharp point. The 1.00 and 1.14 mm are my favorites. For those so inclined, these picks can be had with pot leafs printed on them.

Red Jazz III's, although I have been having some problems with them lately. Has anyone else encountered any problems try picking or playing anything fast? By fast I mean stuff similar to Death's tune Individual Thought Patterns; specifically the opening riff. I have found that, while I have great accuracy and dexterity, my pick gets caught up when I try to play any sort of fast 16th or 32nd note. Maybe it is just my technique, but has anyone else had any problems similar to this? I will admit, my technique needs some working on. (DAMN YOU Shining Force Neo. Instead of spending my time practicing guitar, I spend hours playing you....)

I can only play fast with my red Jazz III's. At least I play much better with them than anything else... I think it's just a matter of practice

I've found I have a similar problem with the Jazz picks. Tried 'em after I heard Vernon Reid uses them, but suffered a bit of drag with them. Although my technique has improved a lot since then.

Have you tried the Stubby 3.0mm? The slicker surface & bevelled edges won't drag on the strings like the squarer edges of Jazz picks do.
