    Re: Singing and playing

I can do it, but I feel like I have to compromise both, so I stick with one or the other. I don't like having a mic that I have to stand in front of and watch out for when I play guitar, and I don't like holding a guitar when I sing.

      Re: Singing and playing

learn the song 1st, then learn the lyrics then pratice

I started with Fire with Fire by Metallica, really easy song since lyrics are short and they follow the guitar rythm and drums as well, so easy song to start with

no easy way to start out. you just have to grind it out. but it does get easier.

i actually think you need to start out with a harder song to REALLY GET that total independence of singing + playing. it's too easy to sing a simple melody over 3 chords where all the syllables fall on the down beat or whatever. you've succeeded in singing + playing at the same time, but you haven't really developed true independence.

try something like the intro bass riff to aerosmith's sweet emotion (played on the guitar) + the singing part at the same time. each are dead simple to pull off individually, but it's a challenge to do both at the same time. the sesation is kind of like having your brain divided in 2.
