  • The Pentatonic, simply put, it works.

You know, I was just playing around a bit, not really going anywhere with it just enjoying myself really.
You know, I've concluded I love the pentatonic.
Its like an old pair of shoes that are nicely broken in and feel right.
Nothing really fancy, it just works.
Gotta love that old pentatonic scale/positions.
Just whaling away and loving every minute of it.
Only if Dave Murrary could see me now.
He is the pentatonic king, the man is so very fluid.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Yes, indeed, the pentatonic scales are pretty darn cool if you know how to work with 'em. If not properly used, they can also sound like a big steaming pile of shit.

    Anyway, you might like this:

You see, thats what I'm talking about.
You can count on it every time because it works for rock n roll.
Whether its a filler or deliberate pentatonic solo, it works.
Sure all the techq, hammer on's and pull off's, string skipping, arppegios and various three note string scales, modes and etc. Makes for a nice arsenal bag, but you can never go wrong the pentatonic positions.
It just works like no other for rock n roll.

I love them too, it's great playing the harmonic minor and all that crap, but in the end, what sounds best for me in general is the pentatonic scale

I agree 100%! As much as I love, and have worked on, all that harmonic minor, 3 note per string, sweeping stuff, it just doesn't usually work when I'm jamming to backing tracks or with other people. But when I use the good old pentatonic scale, it just fits. This SRV kick I've been on the last two months has helped me realize this too.

I find the Penatonic boring but then again I use it in my band a lot. I tend to play around with the Arabic scale though. Its a eargasm to me.

exact same thing for me, SRV really showed me that you can make it sound really different from one solo to another even though there's not that many notes in that scale
