This is kind of obscure, but I was watching tv last night and happened to catch a rerun of that old 80's show "21 Jump Street" where Johnny Depp got his big break. Anyway, in this episode, Depp and the other detectives are undercover at a performing arts school. There's a scene where Depp is in a music class, and the band starts playing a shuffle. This kid - he kind of looks like a young Paul Gilbert - runs in late, straps on a pointy-nose Jackson/Charvel - and proceeds to just rip through some absolutely astonishing runs up and down the fretboard. My jaw was on the floor - as was just about everyone in the class. Later on, Depp asks him about his performance and he says something like, "Oh, that? I was just running through some arpeggios." They didn't sound like arpeggios to me! Anyone happen to have seen that episode and know what the heck he was doing?

Yes - "High High" - that was the episode! They were undercover at one of those "Fame" high schools. In the scene I'm talking about, I don't think the guy was tapping - another guitar player starts the jam with some 2-handed EVH-style licks reminiscent of "Ice Cream Man" and then the Paul Gilbert kid comes in and just shreds - it looked like he was doing some kind of really fast alternate-picked scalar runs.
