      Same here. It actually works better to move the fret hand, and it is more accurate.

        I'm not disagreeing with you or anything, I'm just wondering exactly what you mean by that? What kind of fret hand move do you do to facilitate playing adjacent strings on the same fret without rolling a finger?

          For example: if I play the 12th fret on the D, A, and E(low E) strings with my pinky, then I will play all three with my pinky in succession, lifting off of the note after I fret and pluck it. Instead of rolling with a bar I use an individual finger.

            So you're saying that you can lift and replace your pinly finger three times on three different strings with the same speed as rolling your finger across them? Aren't you at least severely limiting your speed?

              +1. That sounds incredible to me too!

                Look at Jason Becker and Shawn Lane, they can do it incredibly fast. Jason Becker could play his arpeggio piece, Serrana, extremely fast. Actually, he played it from 252 bpm(triplets) or higher. After practicing for a while you get used to using the same finger instead of barring.

                That was Jason Becker playing Serrana. He's smoking!

                  thats sounds a bit forced and slow to me 6 string master,but could work at low speeds-if you had to crank it would be fucking impossible

                  there is a way to get rid of the roll- I have altered the original tab arp shape at the start of this thread with (another way)to finger(no s******ing)that shape

                  E||--18-14----------------------14-18-1st finger 14 fret then pinky 18th
                  B||--------16----------------16-------2nd finger
                  G||-----------16----------16----------1st finger
                  D||--------------16----16-------------2nd finger
                  A||-----------------18----------------pinky
                  E||-----------------------------------

                  now its a lil tight to get the fingers in the line at this position on the neck but i can do it at fastish speeds-lower down the neck it becomes easier with the bigger fret spaces

                  there are always a few ways to do things-see if you can do all of them-or failing that the one that you can do best

                    I think the most useful way is rolling your finger. in my opinion, the other ideas limit your speed. if you study enough on rolling the bare, you'll be succesfull. but you should start studying on lower speeds to be aware of the sound's cleanness and clearness.
                    everlasting life for me in a perfect world...but I gotta die first, please god send me on my way!

                      Well, its just my personal preference. And if Shawn Lane and Jason Becker did it then its ok in my book.

                        i have never heard of lane and becker doing that 6 string,and i have been playing for 20 years!I even attened guitar institute(english git school in london)full time 12 years back for a year and not oNE instructor showed me that!You could do it that way but there is NO WAY it would be as fast or easy to play as rolling or doing it as i showed above in tab

                        dont like to spam but if i dont show you a link to prove i can play you will shrug your shoulders and think i cant play

                          I never said you couldn't play. And I also plan to attend Berkeley school of music in Boston. You don't have to tell me that you went to GIT to prove to me that you can play.

                            Justin was just supporting his case by demonstrating that he's not just some mouthy kid on an internet forum, going off about a topic he little understands, but actually speaks from a position of great experience and learning. Check out his clips. The dude can play a little.

                              I have also never heard of those two playing like that. Did you read about that somewhere or are you just gathering that from watching them?

                              I'm also curious, do you incorporate that technique when playing at top speed? I certainly can't deduce that Jason Becker is doing anything like that in that video, shit it's too fast to see much of anything....
