Sweeping same fret/different string patterns

For the threadstarters question I would not use my pinky, but I was just giving an example. My point is, I don't like to barre when I sweep.

i would roll my fingures. i dont have a guitar by me right now. but i could do it very easy by rolling my middle fingure or fingure 2 i guess you could say over the 16th frets.

yeahhh Vermillion thats the best way to do it,you could string skip arps too if sweeping is too hard.I find that the string skippers have an amazing sound when they play arpsor tapping arps-i try and play it all for more variation as i dont want to be boxed in with ANY tech-need to be free to play anything

Yeah, string skipping arps is a good technique too. That makes me think of Paul Gilbert. Man he is insane at string skipping licks. Everytime I watch or listen to his music I am blown away by not only his speed, but his clean playing and total accuracy. I am not much of a stellar sweeper, and I prefer to alternate pick arpeggios like Steve Morse most of the time.

i have never heard of lane and becker doing that 6 string,and i have been playing for 20 years!I even attened guitar institute(english git school in london)full time 12 years back for a year and not oNE instructor showed me that!You could do it that way but there is NO WAY it would be as fast or easy to play as rolling or doing it as i showed above in tab

What Justin said. All of us have different things that are easier to do, and things that are more difficult. I would advise anyone going to do the sweep thing to learn how to roll one finger for same fret/different string patterns. Just practice slowly and cleanly, it will come. To use different fingers may work better for you in the short term, but you're going to limit yourself technique wise doing it that way.

Not to put out a challenge or anything, but I would love to see one of the posters on this thread play with their pinky on the same frets with hammers as quickly as rolling, if I read that right. Should be very educational to see.
