I don't think anyone claims he invented it, he just made it popular, along with just about any death metal play, or Satch using it constantly.

Thats why I was purposely being vague using the word 'imply'.

But, the Buck article is another good explaination of how to do this technique. you just need to experiment and practise with the bar and different harmonics

Gotcha. Although I think John Petrucci invented them when he was still in the womb, after he invented music.

Didn't Gene Simmons from KISS invent this and then patent it so he gets paid eveytime someone does it.
He seems to think he invented everything else...........................
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Let's not forget Brad Gillis with Night Ranger. He was great with the bar and screaming harmonics.

This is brilliant - just need to learn how to really make it scream a la dime.

I'm guessing you need to raise the action marginally if you want to really scream otherwise the strings catch on the frets when you pull up fully? at least that the problem i'm having!

You can do it with very low action..I do..

you just have to get the feel of it..before the string bottoms out and stops vibrating..and if it does..just flick the string with your left hand to get it movin' again while it's still floppin'..before bringing it up to pitch..and beyond.

I been perfecting this lately..I found that a stomp box ..be it a dist/overdrive unit will help a bit..pushes the harmonics a tad more..unless you're playing with a Line 6 or ect..SS amps really seems to excel in this trick..prolly why Dime loved his Randalls so much..

                      Happy dive bombin'..

Brad Gillis properly abusing a Floyd circa June,1982.One thing I have not heard mentioned yet is making sure your trem spring travel is smooth and not creating the afformentioned violated marsupial syndrome.

The inventer was probably evh or something...

Dime made it his style by incorperating it into nearly every song he played withought it getting repetative.

Uli Roth and Frank Marino improved what Jimi started several years later..before Ed came out..

                            Speedy's coming..Electric Reflections of War..that was very early 70's..

Ed used to cover some old Scorps, I was told..I could see that..Catch your Train ..I believe.

There are great squealy harmonics to be had between the 2nd and 3rd frets, believe it or not. Just find the sweet spot, dig in and dive! I have also been playing with doing harmonics similar to pinches, but with whole chords and kind of pinched, raked and palmed at the same time. It's easier to do than to describe and adds a lot of color to rhythm work. If you don't get the harmonic squealing right, you just keep playing the rhythm. If you get a great squeal going, you whammy it. I don't know if that's what y'all are already talking about but it's easier than you'd think and it sounds real cool.

                                ^...What Rich said.

Lots of distortion/gain and a little delay helps too..
