It is really important to have a metronome that has a good "click" tone, that cuts through your playing. Because the metronome should lead you, literally kick you.
Also really fast playing should be like 3% of your practicing time. If you have a hard time playing 16th at 100bpm, I'd recommend you first start playing the same patterns as 8ths at 120 gradually raising it up to 200 and then return back to playing as 16th from 80-90 gradually raising it up to 100.
To make sure that your fingers play the pattern automatically, change to the triplets (you had 1-2-3-4 1-2-3-4 pattern, now it is 1-2-3 4-1-2 3-4-1 etc) starting at 120-140...
