  • I know this is no biggie for you pro's, but

Man, have i went up to a new level of hammer ons, and pull offs!
Rippin' these triangle boxes alternating the patterns and finding
what "Boxes" work well with what chords. Two strings at a time,
and then alternating between single hammer ons, and then going
back to the 2 string boxes again. Wish i could transcribe!
Anyway, since i cant sweep pick, i guess ill have to stick with 64th
note tapping! Yes, im a dweeb. LOL I need to find my old Steve
Lynch instructional tape again. Maybe ill learn something from Reb
Beach in 3 weeks. I doubt it, his technique is so great, using his
ring finger to tap, while still holding his pick normally. Im too stuck
in my rut to completely change now. Anyway, just wanted to pump
my chest a bit, cause im stoked after playing for 4 hours straight!

Reb doesn't usually use his ring finger to tap. Unless he's doing multi-string taps & needs more than one finger to tap. He doesn't hold the pick normally while he taps either.

He tucks the pick into the crook of his first finger (kind of curls his finger around the pick to hold it) so he can rest his thumb on the top of the fretboard as a guide. He uses his ring finger to pluck the first note on each string as he plays ascending patterns.

So if he was playing a 4-note-per-string ascending scale, he would pluck the first with his pick hand ring finger, hammer on the next two notes and tap the last note with his index finger. Then pluck the first note on the next string with his pick hand ring finger and continue. It's a very cool technique and one I want to work more on. I'm still really slow with it.
    Hail yesterday

Bloody chestpumper Hey dude, glad to hear your playing is improving, sounds like you're really getting somewhere! If you get the urge it would be cool if you posted a soundclip or a video of your playing

As long as the sound is good enough it really doesn't matter to me if I can see you or not

                Haha, right on!
I remember when I first started getting over that hump and discovered that I could play some really fast patterns with hammer ons and pull offs using nothing more than simple 3 or 4 note shapes. I was doing them in every solo. You may be opening doors for alot of new things, keep it up.
