Eb, drop D in Eb. I think 1/2 step down sounds better, and most singers I have worked with over the years like it. The wierd thing is that I have played in Eb for 25 years, but when I change strings, I always tune it to 440 by ear.
On four guitars that I keep in standard E tuning (3 are using 9' and one uses 10's) all the rest (7other guitars) are tuned to D (a whole step down - and those use 12 - 54's) I found that the heavier strings combined with the lower tuning gives a very "wide - deep and rich" tone!
Mostly C standard
Sometimes A standard
occasionally:
FFA#D#GC(low F, tuning down, not up, so the adjacent strings are an octave apart)
EADGBE
DGDGA#D(try that one)
DGDGBD
DADGAD
I try to avoid "drop" tunings(ie. Drop D, Drop C etc...)
you prefer to play an open tuning? Is that slide, fingerstyle, what style of music?
I don't play conventionally, meaning I can't play properly like everyone else cuz I'm too selfish to pay £20+ per hour/lesson. Look at my signature, go figure. I don't use my 3rd finger and can't even do proper finger stretch exercises. I'm influenced by Emperor (Black Metal).
