I mostly play now with my guitar hiked up with the strap up all the way. I sit down in a chair infront of the computer and I fiddle around recording though a J-station. (don't wanna bang up my guitar on the chair arms) It feels really comfortable, I guess I'm used to it. Now whenever I try to play standing or sitting anywhere else with the guitar on my leg it hurts my shoulder a lot to play. Is there anything I could do to make it less painful/easier to play? Maybe some stretching?

I'm not exactly sure of your symptoms but...
I've suffered from pain due to playing on many occasions. I've even woke up feeling like I was having a heart attack or something. I'd get these sharp pains that seemed to shoot from my collar bone down to the middle of my chest. As it turns out, I believe I was pinching nerves in my left shoulder. Another weird problem I would have is that my left hand would suddenly go completely numb! the only fix for that was to immediately stop playing, take the guitar off and shake it out! I've had it happen live and all I could do was suffer through it until the song was over. Try playing a solo with a hand that is asleep!! hehe.
To fix the problem, I bought wwwiiidddeee straps. Especially for my Explorer. I think it might even be a bass guitar strap. As soon as I stopped using thin little straps that cut into my shoulder, I basically cured all of the problems I was having. I still sometimes get a sore shoulder if I do a lot of extended playing but it is nothing like it used to be.
The Carvin deluxe is a good one if you're not worried about the huge logo. If not those, look at some of the straps made for bass players. Wide, soft leather is nice.Last edited by mjl927; 06-25-2007, 02:32 PM.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Take the arms off the computer chair I did.If you are pinching nerves maybe there is an underlying problem that chiropractic care could fix.You may have a sublaxation in the spine you don't know about.
My chiropractor is the only reason I'm walking and still able to work she is great.Really? well screw Mark Twain.
