Sweeping Lesson 1.1(Beginner)

I've not being active for a while so to compensate for that here's somthing to add on to Pete's sweeping lessons.
This is a three string sweeping excise base on the Am scale. Pratice them both accending and desending.
In order to play them clean, you have to mute each note with the left hand immediately after picking. Use a metronome to made sure every note sound even.

Try Ex.2 only when you are comfortable with the motion and able to play Ex.1 clean and on time.

Sweep-picking is where you sweep across the strings as if you are strumming a chord, but instead of holding a chord you are changing the notes with your left hand as each string is plucked. It is frequently used for doing arpeggios. The advantage to sweep-picking is that you are able to play things like arpeggios extremely fast once you master the technique. Yngwie Malmsteen is usually credited with bringing this technique to the mainstream of rock and roll, although he was not the first to do it. It is a very difficult thing to master if you are used to a normal picking technique, and the timing between the left and right hands is critical, but it's a blast once you get it down and it's a real head-turner. It helps to know at least some music theory, but it's not absolutely necessary. There, that's the best explanation I can give. I'm sure someone else can do a better job. If you want to hear some awesome sweeping check out the band Cacophony. Just about all of their songs have a healthy dose of sweep in them. Some especially cool sweeps can be found in the Cacophony songs "Speed Metal Symphony" and "Concerto"...and check out the ending solo to "Images"
