tip with harmonics

was just practicing with different picks, and found a gibson mandolin type pick (really small teardrop shaped pick)

harmonics jump off the guitar with this thing! so if you are having difficulties, try one

pretty good for speed picking too, due to their sharp point

also, by picking close to the bridge it makes it a lot easier to get harmonics. Just in case you didn't know [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

Some harmonics might be easier to hit near the bridge, but different harmonics have different sweet spots. For example, to get a good harmonic on say, the 14th fret of the high E I'd pick above the outer coil of the neck humbucker...pretty much where the 26t fret would be if there was one...

thats because you're just picking 12th frets higher. Harmonics are always easiest to achieve when plucked 12th frets above the route note simply because you're just plucking in the area that creates the exact same frequency. Natural harmonics don't usually have any other 'sweet spots' besides the 12th fret higher thingy.. pinch harmonics do though of course. If you're just going for natural harmonics while casually playing, picking close to the bridge will always make it easier instead of constantly trying to pick 12th frets up or picking closer to the neck. Take harmonics on any string on the 4th,5th,7th frets... all will work a lot easier if you pick closer to the bridge. You'll especially notice the difference if you try it with 3rd fret harmonics on the 2nd and 3rd strings. I learned this from the Stetina or Curt Mitchell series.
