Re: I wanna learn an SRV song
I don't know much of his stuff, but my dad has a nice live version of him playing Hendrix's little wing that goes for about 5 minutes. That's a real cool solo, and he add's some extra stuff in there on top of the normal hendrixy stuff. But that's probably not what you're looking for.

Re: I wanna learn an SRV song
All of his stuff sounds good with only one guitar. But do you mean as a solo piece or as the only guitar in a band?
Tightrope is a good one for playing by yourself, rockin' riff and some cool 9th chord vamping. But if you want something to play with a band, Crossfire is great. It's really driven by the bassline, and the guitar is fairly sparse until he tears into the solo. Good lesson in restraint.
Or there's one of my favourites, Couldn't Stand the Weather. I should learn that one myself some day.
A nice solo piece to sing along with is Life By The Drop. He played that one on a lone 12 string acoustic on Sky Is Crying. I also have a great 6 string acoustic version of Pride & Joy that he played on MTV Unplugged.
For technique, I'd love to learn Scuttlebuttin'Hail yesterday

Re: I wanna learn an SRV song
VitamnG, I saw that episode of "Unplugged" with SRV, and it was awesome, to say the least. When he played "Pride and joy", I don't think he opened his eyes once, until the song was over. That man knew his fretboard.
One of the more recent guitar mags has an SRV song in it, and I think it's "Pride and joy" if I remember correctly.

Re: I wanna learn an SRV song
I love SRV ^.^ some good songs to learn that'll get you into his feel are:
o Rude Mood (liked it so much i tabbed it out!)
o Tight Roap
o Love Struck Baby
o Pride And Joy
o Hideaway (easy, and fun)
o Crossfire (for lil solo bursts)
o Marry Had a Little Lamb (easiest song)
He did a lotta string raking, and he picked really hard (with his whole arm, not just his wrist), and had those nice Fender Texas Special pickups. Soooooo if ur tone doesn't come out exactly like his, don't worry about it ^.^ no one sounds like he did. Not even his brother!
