        Re: classical scales

It is the chord used by Stravinsky. He invented it basically. It is evil and dissonant.

its really just a hgue fat ugly chord. Its a C maj combine with an F# maj. at teh same time of course. He used it first in his ballet...Petrushka. Hence the name. I learned about it in theory 202. Anything else you wanna know about? counterpoint can be a ***** sometimes. stay away from parallel 5ths and octaves. parallel 3rds and sixths are Safe though. If you care about proper baroque style harmonies.

            Re: classical scales

yeah. I know alot about theory. But, applying it to guitar becomes quite tedious. In the End, your ear is your best asset really. My playing ability is a far cry away from matching my knowledge.

I'd love to be able to sweetp pick my ass through a flurry of Augmented 6th chords and neapolitans and all that fancy romantic ****. But....yeah, technique is lacking.

That's sweetness Diablomozart. The pizzicato violin bit (i think, where they mute it a lot) was a nice change of dynamic. What's counterpoint?

                    Re: classical scales

Oh. So you were saying to do any 4th or 5th harmonies when doing baroque, just stick to thirds and 6ths. 5th harmonies sound chinese to me anyway, or medievil.

                      Re: classical scales

no you can use perfect 5ths, and perfect 4ths and octaves. 2nd, or any other interval. You just dont' want ot use them consecutively. You really can do whatever you want, there were rules back in those days that music had to follow....but rules are made to be broken. most guitar harmonies in metal are fifths and octaves. You really don't here a dual guitar band ripping up a 2 guitar lead that actually follows the theoretical rules of counterpoint. Though, why I'll never know.

goto the lessons on this page and it has most of the scales/modes that are all listed above, and it shows them all across the fretboard, it really improved my solos and my knowledge of the fretboard.
