I stay away from open notes as my main guitar's not intonated. Watch the Marty Friedman vs Paul Gilbert videos... In certain ones he talks about improvising.

well I look at the B Phrygian as a mode based off the G major scale so key of G officially but since B phyrgian mode is minor mode I just roll with key of E minor for that.
the B phrygian mode contains the exact same notes as GM/Em. Take the major scale pattern with the G note as the root and keep hte pattern exactly the same but start on the B note and play it to the octave....thats the B phrygian and its the useds hte same notes of the G Major scaleshawnlutz.com

If he played it from B, it's the same as G major. but if he replaces E minor with B Phrygian that would be interesting, because like he said it's the same but with a flat 2nd...
I don't know if I'm expressing this the right way or if this approach is correct or not, I'm self taught so what do I know?I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

Seems like I play in Em most of the time. I know it easily all over the neck. I'm trying to break out and play in some other keys but most backing tracks tend not to stray. I'm liking Gm and C at the moment and trying to get a better feel for them in more positions on the neck.
Playing arpeggios is soomething I approach more based on what chord I'm playing over instead of the key.

My fav is Em cause of the open strings. Am second. If I want to sound bad ass - F# minor is the most rockin' bad ass sounding key if you ask me.
I also play Bm. Those are my 4 favs. But I have jammed in F, A# - whatever.
A person should practice chromatically on the guitar so you can jam in any key. Takes a long time to do this but well worth the effort. I can play in any key and feel comfy - C, C#, G - does not matter.PLAY TILL U DIE !!!

After a couple of bars of that, I'll go into mixoydian phygrian, etc., but I
really have no clue where I'm going with most of those.

On my 7 string, my Open E is E, but I have a B- string too...it goes like "chug..chug..chug..chug".. something like that.
I'm writing a song called "2B or not 2B"..which is in B and B+."Bill, Smoke a Bowl and Crank Van Halen I, Life is better when I do that"
