Re: Question about Troy Stetina\'s Material....

I've taught friends how to play guitar, but they're pretty casual about it...I know for a fact that if I assigned them lessons out of SM, they'd say, "nice to know you!".

However, I'll agree that SM would be appropriate for the DEDICATED, HARDCORE, and PATIENT beginner. It seems like the people on this board, beginners or not, are hardcore about music and guitars, so would fit that category. So, you beginners out there, unleash the fury!

Oh, and don't forget your metronome or drum machine!

Re: Question about Troy Stetina\'s Material....

My reasoning for not advising a beginner to use SM as his SOLE method for learning to play is that SM is just a collection of exercises. You ain't learnin' no songs in SM (except for the classical pieces at the end of the book).

In his Metal Lead & Rhythm series, you learn a different song in each chapter. Also, he explains things alot more indepth.

Having said all of the above, I love SM and think that it is probably the greatest resource out there for the guitarist who wants to improve his technique.
