• 8 finger tapping.

Well I'm struggling to learn at least something with this technique, but I'm hopelessly stuck...
Seems like however I try, it sounds, feels, and looks tarded.
I've been practising mostly chromatic patterns like 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 on each string, with small variations.
Do anyone here at the forum play 8 fingers, or know where i could find out more?

Jeff Watson from Nightranger was one of the 1st 8 note tappers. Look up some of his tab.

Yep yep.....Jeff Watson was probably the first guy to really use it in a commercial setting, and the best example would probably be the solo from You Can Still Rock in America.

Another guy who used it quite extensively was Steve Lynch from Autograph....in their song Turn Up the Radio....he had a flawless technique and I believe also taught at MI in California.

Thirdly, a monster guitar player who played for Michael Jackson on tour was Jennifer Batten. That chick could flat out wail and was awesome

These should get you pointed in the right direction.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">FYI, Turn up the radio didn't have the 8 finger thing... either that or he really did it the hard way, because I was able to do it with 6 finger technique and I've seen guys do it with 5 (four fingers left hand, one tap)

Did Steve Lynch do it in Hammerhead, his guitar solo thing?

Use a metronome. Take a sweatband and use it mute your strings (at the nut) at first. Use 8's or 9's and really low action. Take your time, it will feel like you are throwing a baseball with the wrong hand. Your palm/heel will help mute out the open string noise. I hope this helps. Also practice running scales not just 1,2,3,4 stuff. Good luck!

You might try to find either Steve Lynch's REH video and/or Jeff Watson's Sessions video. You can probably find them either online or at eBay. As both of those guys were big tappers, I would think that their videos might useful to you.

OK this is a subject not too many people get into I see.
There is a guy that plays with Bret Garsed and if I remember his name correctly it is T.J. Helmich or something close to that. He came out of Burkley. He is probably the best 8 finger guy to date. Also, Stanley Jordan - blind guy - can tap on 2 guitars at once - he is amazing.

T J Helmerich

BTW, Stanley Jordan isn't blind. I haven't seen him play on two guitars at once (although I don't doubt he could do it), but he's a master at using both hands to play bass lines, rhythm parts and lead lines on the one guitar.

I'm surprised Jennifer Batten didn't rate a mention in this thread. Phenomenal guitarist.

I had that down on bass but could never get it right on guitar.....

I mean I could do it on guitar but it sounds like s-hit...

but now since my left pinky's F'd ....so it's seven finger tapping for me .....I'm trying to compensate that by throwing my pud in there somewhere..

I saw Stanley Jordan play on 2 guitars - I was **** blown away. He can do much more on two guitars than Michael Angelo although not as fast.
Also, there is a guy on one of the "Worlds Scariest Guitarests" CD out of Berkley that is very good but I am not at home to look up his name.
