• Scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory etc..

Summer is coming up, and I have decided to practice at least 5 hours a day. I have the Speed Mechanics book, but I can practice with that for tops 2-3 hours before my minds starts wandering off.

So I was wondering if you guys have any good sites with Scales, arpeggios, chords music theory and such, because I really need to work those things up.

Thanx a million
/Thoraby

I was going to suggest www.lefthandhack.com but it's not working. Maybe it moved i dunno. Used to have lots of video lessons, tabs, text and backing tracks online. Look for a cool guy called Justin Wakely. He's also active on this board.

I got all the clips from lefthandhack so let me know if you want them. I'll mail them or we can do some messenger if you like. Let me know.

Here's the video list:

Re: Scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory etc..

damm yeahh thats my old online site

Am getting a prosite made that will eventualy have a load of great learning vids on.Still in
its very early stages at the moment but shouldnt
be too long

Check out Chads site,he has a few vids on the chopsfromhell site(is more musical than all of them put together)
http://www.chadcoggin.com/

He is in the process of making a DVD for either chopsfromhell site or his own site.and of course his music projects

this is another very cool site that has great powertab lessons from the masters out there now
(the greg howe lessons rock)

http://www.essentialguitarist.com/

if i can think of any other sites that have learning aids rather than show off vids then i will post a link

your best bet is to DL loads of tony macalpine powertab and learn it

Re: Scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory etc..

What you want here is pictures indicating what to play on the fretboard for the scales or explainations on how all the scales work and apply them yourself?

This?
A Major = A, B, C#, D, E, F#, G#
E Major = E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D#
B Major = B, C#, D#, E, F#, G#, A#
D Major = D, E, F#, G, A, B, C#
F# Major = F#, G#, A#, B, C#, D#, E#

or
This?
Major Scale =

C-The Root note is the first note.
D-The 2nd note is whole steps from the first.
E-The 3rd note whole steps from the 2nd note.
F-The 4th note is half step from the 3rd note.
G-The 5th note is whole steps from the 4th.
A-The 6th note is whole steps from the 5th
B-The 7th note is whole steps from the 6th

Re: Scales, arpeggios, chords, music theory etc..

Thoraby,

For some basic theory, i highly recommend http://www.insaneguitar.net/

Once you're there, go to his Master Classes. The lessons he offers are very good IMHO. His site has being around for a quite a while and has gone thru many changes but the essentials are still there.

IMO, the most important thing for music theory is to know your Major scales, once you have them in your head, it's a lot easier to move on to harder stuff.

If you have any questions on his lessons, let me know, i'm more than happy to help.

Or if you've already master the Major scales and wanna move on to something else, i'm more than willing to help too.

Fong
