  • Set up to play with a slide

If you where to set up a guitar to play slide, we all know that it has to have a high set up, but would you raise the bridge? put a higher nut or chim the nut to make it higher? or do both?

I'd start by raising the nut...either by shim or by replacement.

Just what kind of guitar are you referring to and a setup to play slide?
      Thats so strange to me.
I've played slide off and on, here and there, on an acoustic and electric
and never raised the strings. Maybe its me and probably is, but I'm not really sure your need to raise the strings to play slide. I've used chrome and glass slides and never bared down into the strings and have had good success. From what I learned, like various players, some really grip the neck and fret the notes and strings somewhat hard. Others, are much more relaxed and play light. Same principle with slide, but its not a mandate to really press down into the strings to resonate them with the slide.
As goofy as it sounds and I know cause I've done it.
A regular spoon will create the same effect a chrome, bottle or glass slide will.
Its all in knowing how to use the "slide" of your choice, not necessarily in raising the strings. Its your journey, do what you want and I'm only trying to help.
Buy yourself a chrome, glass and bottle slide each and experiment and see what works best for your style.
Peace, Love and Happieness and all that stuff...

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

I have a chrome metal slide but my guitars have a very low action on them and if I press down just a bit it will fret the string. I have no problem on my acoustic since the action is higher. But I wan't to buy a Dano '59 or something else just to play slide.

get a wooden dowel or just stick a pencil under the the strings behind the nut.
