  • Megadeth...Holy Wars...cool tune.

I've never learned any of their stuff.

    Explanation:

Much of 90's (not all but to about late 97ish) were a very low spot in time for me. I went through alot of stuff and the guitar got shoved aside so to speak.
I still played mostly in the home and not really indulging to learn any new tunes, that was work that I wasn't ready for or up to. A very bad time.
The gigging ended, and a whole mess of stuff came along, and it was the occasionally moments of guitar and family that kept me grounded and sane.

    Back to the song:

Downloaded all of Megadeth's stuff a couple of days ago...ooooops did I say that.
Can't say I care much for Risk but the rest of the albums/CD's including United Abomination, are pretty good, it least to me anyways.

The absolute one song the hooked and reeled me and couldn't get it out of my head is, Holy Wars. I put that tune and others bands and artists on a blank CD. I think I created me a killer CD with a bunch a different cool stuff on it. I'm running errands and etc and listening to the CD and I can't help myself I keep replaying Holy Wars. While finishing up running the errands I begin to listen to it with the intent to learn it. So my ear starts listening more carefully to pick up on technique and nuances of the song.

Return home, grab the guitar and start going to work learning the tune.
I have to tell ya, it could've used alittle more cowbell.

Long story made shorter, its one fun tune to play.
I'm hooked. I dig it. I can't stop playing it, I'm having alot of fun gang.
Its amazing what all can be done in any given key of a song.
Also, it can be a good warm up tune to loosen the fingers up with.

Is it just me, but at/toward the end of the song they start playing faster.
Anybody notice that? I love the tune.

    One more thing.
My wife and daughter went on vacation (annual ladies in/of the family get together and choose a place to vacation) they do it every year about this time. I get the whole house to myself and you know, I'm rockin out!

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

Agreed, great song. Just don't try to learn it from a guitar magazine tab that combines the two guitar lines into one line of tab, making it impossible to actually play without 4 hands. LMAO

So what other tunes did you put on that mix cd?

      Heres the list:
I use Sony Vegas to edit my MP3's, its a very useful and great piece a software for me.

      Technical Difficulties - Gilbert
Screamin' For A Vengeance - Priest
      Killer Of Giants - Ozzy
      Holy Wars - Megadeth
Mad At The World - RacerX/Gilbert Great tune and lyrically it nails my life in the 90's.
Broons Bane - Alex Lifeson Live version edited.
Closer To The Heart - Rush
Little Guitars - Edward Just the intro guitar piece.
      Liberty - Vai
      Spanish Fly - Ed again
Farewell To Kings - Rush Only the beginning classical acoustical part, not the whole song.
I Will Remember - Lynch Masterpiece it has so much emotion/soul.
      Round And Round - Ratt
Tangled In Your Web - Lynch again
Pleasure Dome - Ed again Only the guitar stuff in the beginning not the whole song.
King Of The Monsters - RacerX/Gilbert again. A decent musical instrumental.
The Hunter - Dokken/Lynch Well written and full of Lynch nuances.
The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy One of my favorite bands. Great players.
Into The Arena - Michael Schenker
      Lighting Strikes - Dokken/Lynch
      Scarified - Gilbert
Women In Love - Ed again Only the intro guitar piece not the song.
The Hellion/Electric Eye - JP Just a fun metal tune to play and listen to.
      YYZ - Rush
Superheroes - RacerX/Gilbert This tune reminds me of a hot rodded Judas Priest.
The singer in some spots reminds me of a younger Halford.
      Highway Star - DP/Blackmore

I'm mostly/mainly a instrumental guy. Its about the guitar to me.
Singers usually make or break a song for me so I try not to focus so much on the singer.
There have been some real good tunes that start out really good musically and as soon as the singer starts singing I become disappointed and frustrated, OR, if the singing is good and it complements and adds to the song, a smile is usually produced and makes the song even better.

Honestly, yumvay was never my thing I just couldn't get into him.
I tried to but I couldn't find that one thing that would qualify.
Kinda like Dragon Force, great musicians, but when you hear one or two songs you heard it all, pretty much sounds the same after that to me. I get frustrated listening to a souless techician that can play a million notes in 30 seconds. I'd rather listen to someone thats clearly not at that same level of playing that can play with some soulful emotion in his or her stuff. I'm not talking about playing the Blues either. Just speak to me without playing a million notes in 30 seconds.
      You know what I mean?

      Example:
Gilbert, Lifeson, Edward, Lynch, Vai, Blackmore all can truly shred but they do it with heart.
Edward said one time in an interview when asked about Yumvay.
"Good player, but one can go only play so fast and beyond that the ear can't make it out."
Think about that let it register and process it.
Those are big and very significant words coming from the main shredder of the late 70's and through the 80's himself.
In other words, whats the point behind it?
Its not really musical anymore when shredding takes front stage and becomes the main emphasis. Ed was always about the "song" from start to finish and his solo's were indeed fast BUT had heart.

Yah, I get the Megadeth buzz going pretty strong.

If you like Holy Wars, you'll like the entire Rust in Peace album. For more fun Megadeth songs check out Lucretia and Tornado of Souls.

I'm liking the list you got going there. Especially Scarified. Oh, and I actually have the Rust In Peace tab book and yeah, don't learn it from a tab. It's way too hard to follow.

That I'm not sure about, but it does a bunch of stuff that I've never took the time to learn.
Extract? You can pull out or extract a song, it does that, thus separating it from the others.

                  What I do with...
                  1. Edit or adjust the volume of songs.
Some songs the volume is way too low or too loud.
It allows me to up or down the volume and pan it each song individually and then record at those adjustments.
                  2. MP3 files from whatever they might be, 96, 128 or 256
I convert to 320 and at 320 its a huge improvement in sound quality. Very cool feature.
                  3. File conversion, if the file is supported and 99.9% of the time it is, conversion is a breeze.
Conversion is the last option you select before recording the file. Select the file type you want and it does it for you.
                  4. A video, if I want the music only, I can delete the video track. Vica versa.
Video example, it sees it as one video file (literally) but you can extract any video/audio you want. Very easy.
I've done this alot. Doesn't matter if its from a DVD or a downloaded file.
                  5. Songs that got alittle too much silence at the end of the song.
That can be removed. I don't like a long pause or silence in between songs.
A couple seconds is all want.
                  6. If I only want any given part of the song but not the whole song it will allow you to do this effortlessly.
                  7. Can record with it video and audio alike.
                  8. It does photos/pics. files and etc.
                  9. Can burn nearly anything to disk. I don't use it for that but it does it.

For home mp3 recording and thats mainly what I use it for, it great.
Its very versatile and its a "all in one" software. One software that does a bunch of stuff and I don't have to have a bunch of other software. I like it.

If Malmsteen doesn't have fire in his playing, I don't know who does.

There are plenty of shredders who don't, but YJM is not one of them.

Anyway, Holy Wars and Tornado of Souls are pretty much the only Megadeth songs I like. Hanger 18 is pretty good too.

Yep - anyone that doubts should see Yngwie live - preferably in a small venue. His tone is incredible and he has as much fire as anyone. As for what Ed said - I respect his playing immensely, but his opinion is just that - his opinion.

Malmsteen sucks dick. His solos all sound the same, he is a cock. He's now going to destroy the career of the best metal vocalist around (Tim). Fuck Malmsteen the fat widdling cunt.

Yngwie plays with more passion and fire than any other wanker out there.... his playing is VERY agressive and he ends all his lines with an amazing vibrato wich gives you the goosebumps. Gilbert for example is more precise player but doesn't have any of that agression in his playing. Yngwie doesn't just play... he fucking rapes the guitar. I don't care if his music is repeative... I don't really listen to him much.... but the impact he makes when he starts ripping and all the cool moves he does on the stage just make me smile.
