  • Sweating bullets solo

Is it just me, or is all of the TAB out there incorrect.

When Dave is playing down the scale at the beginning of the solo, I count two counts of 6 in each bar. (4 counts of 12, so 48 notes in total).

    So like

    |-15-14-13--------------------------------------|-
    |-------------16-15-14--------------------------| |
    |-------------------------16-15-14--------------| |
    |-------------------------------------16-15-14--| |
    |-------------------------------------------------| |
    |-------------------------------------------------|

    First bar 12 notes
    etc etc

But all of the tab that I see looks like this??

    |-15-14-13-12-------------------------------------|-
    |-------------16-15-14-13-------------------------| |
    |-------------------------16-15-14-13-------------| |
    |-------------------------------------16-15-14-13-| |
    |-------------------------------------------------|
    |-------------------------------------------------|

    Are my ears screwed up???

    What the heck..

The tab sounds right to me, maybe you're just expecting the end of each set of 4 notes to 'mesh' a little differently as the chromatics are a bit strange to the ear. Play the whole riff (not just what you've tabbed) and it's pretty obvious what Mustaine was thinking...it's 4 notes a string going down from string 1 in a 123 234 345 456 pattern (shifting up a fret each time you move down a string, except between the B and G strings).

edit: the tab you gave as the web example should be 17-16-15-14 on the D string I reckon...

        Wasn't this Marty's solo?

and the beginning of that is all chromatics, so the 2nd example would be right.. Sort of.

OMG I'm totally confused. It's not hard to play but for some reason I can't wrap my head around it.

          The 2nd example?

          OK I'll try it again...

OK I see,,, I've got it now. 4 notes per string is better (in groups of three).

Thanks for the help. Sometimes little things like that can be hard to wrap your head around (even though quite simple).

Go to youtube in their search engine type in without the quotes "sweating bullets solo"
You will find the help you may or may not be looking for.
Great web site for many things.

I personally do not care how it was built as long as it is a good playing/sounding instrument.

This is weird because I just learned this solo last week after not listening to Megadeth for a very long time. It's definately a weird solo. Which is why I wanted to learn it.

I flat-out assumed Mustaine because it's not weird in an exotic scale way, it's just weird in a "I know no theory and need to pull something out of my ass, quickly" kind of way. It's usually pretty easy to work out who's soloing, take Lucretia for example.

I could have sworn I've seen Marty play this solo, but, I just looked it up, and you're right.

                    Damn...That's odd.

I remember seeing Mustaine play this solo, I think about Halloween on MTV in 94. Way back in the day.

It was definately Mustaines solo and he's always played it. Marty was long gone wen Dave had his hand problem.

The halloween concert 94 was mtv's night of the living Megadeth I think.
