I've never used them. I did use Jim Dunlop 3.0mm Stubbies for years, but the last couple of years I've used regular 1.0mm US Nylons. Bought a big bag of them, but I rarely wear them out so I'll probably bequeath it to my kidsHail yesterdayComment

I've been using Big Stubby 3.0mm for a couple years too... those who have experience with both the Big Stubby and Jazz III.... how different are they?

I've used the lil'red Jazz IIIs for years. Previously I used the 3mm stubbies, but they tended to wear blunt very quickly - and they were a bastard to find when dropped on a dark stage.

I used the red ones for years, and still do some of the time. Recently I've switched back to larger heavy picks, mostly because I play more rhythm than leads in my current band, and I have very large hands. Jazz IIIs are great picks though!Comment

I tried them once and couldn't get used to how small and thick they were. I'm happy with my green Tortex (.88mm) picks.ScottComment

I started using Jazz III's about 3-4 years ago. Prior to that, I exclusively used Fender Jazz, switching between heavy and medium. I've never heard of the ultex ones before.... Looks like I'm off to Guitar Center to try 'em out!

There is quite a noticeable difference in them. The Stubbies have a very defined sound that works good for rhythm. They don't sound so good clean. Jazz III's are the opposite. Their tininess makes them a little annoying for rhythm but they're great for lead and clean stuff. Well, I got a few sets of the Jazz III Ultex (had to order them, as GC doesn't carry 'em
)... First impressions are pretty positive. They are definitely more "grippy", less slippery than the red/black ones. They feel a bit thicker to me, though that may be just a feel thing. We'll see how well they wear... Funny thing is they're almost clear, so if you put them between the strings on a maple-boarded axe, it's hard to tell if the pick's there... A different color would have been great, but not a big deal...

I have been using the black small ones for like 3 years now, helped me when learning how to sweep and also for pinch harmonics, way back when
also people including alexi laiho say they take time to get used to for rhythm but the thin tip makes faster lines soo much easy, its like BASIC BASIC physics why, less mass, and less of a tip, less friction, so they move faster...I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.Comment

But just take what i mean at surface level, if you were to hook up both to a machine, the thinner and smaller tip would go faster, because there is less material to hit the strings. It's like comparing the point end of a pen to the blunt end, theres no comparison. Man fuck you guys; I've haven't used these damn Jazz IIIs for that long and I'm already fuckin' addicted to 'em!
I played one of the black Jazz IIIs for about 30 minutes and already it feels weird playing any other picks... not even my beloved purple Dunlop Tortex 1.14mms feel as good as they used too. Seriously though, these picks are fucking sweet! You kind of gotta used to playing rhythm with them, but when it comes to playing leads with 'em they're like a godsend! Overall I'm pretty happy with themComment
